Box Score RICHMOND, Ky. - The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team opened its 2018 season with a 4-3 victory over NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky Saturday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
The Colonels (3-9) secured the first point of the match winning two out of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead entering singles play. Lindsey Wilson (1-0) and EKU played by NCAA scoring on Saturday -- doubles matches counted as one point. Camilo Erazo and Javier Raya picked up the lone doubles victory defeating Carlos Dodero and Gabriel Ruiz in the No. 2 doubles match.
Eastern Kentucky jumped out to a 3-0 lead after taking the first two singles matches Guillem Sanchis defeated Steven Espinoza 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match. Ramon Van Flaymen put the Colonels up 3-0 in the match defeating Edberg Espinoza in No. 1 singles in consecutive sets 6-4, 7-5.
Erazo got the Blue Raiders their first point at the No. 4 singles match. He defeated Ruiz 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). In the second-seeded singles match, Denis Porcic defeated Parth Aggarwal in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to trim the deficit to 3-2.
Ivan Solans Diaz tied the match up with a victory over Nic Castaldo at No. 5 singles. Solans Diaz dropped the first set 6-1 then won the next two sets 6-3, 7-5. The match came down to the sixth-seeded match between Raya and Juan Soria. Raya won the first set 7-6 (7-2) and clinched the match with a 7-6 (11-9) second set victory.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on March 4 when they host No. 8-ranked William Woods (Mo.) at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex at 10:30 a.m. CT.
