Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 6 Lindsey Wilson men's tennis remained unbeaten this season with a 5-4 win over No. 22 Union (Ky.) today at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The win is the third over a nationally-ranked NAIA opponent this season for the Blue Raiders -- who move to 5-0 on the season.
Union (7-4) captured the first point of the day in the third-seeded doubles match as Lois Castellon and Mark Khuenel upended Edberg Espinoza and Steven Espinoza 8-4.
Ivan Solans Diaz and Javier Raya claimed the first Lindsey Wilson point in the second-seeded match to draw the Blue Raiders even at 1-1. The Lindsey Wilson tandem improves to 3-0 on the season with an 8-5 win over Srdan Pejic and Borna Bartolovic.
Denis Porcic and Camilo Erazo gave the Blue Raiders the 2-1 team lead with an 8-6 win over Santiago Diaz Lopez and Ewan Mckinnie in the top doubles match. Porcic and Erazo are 4-0 this season as a doubles team.
Erazo picked up the first singles win at No. 2 singles. He posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bartolovic to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Porcic -- ranked No. 3 in NAIA singles -- helped the Blue Raiders move within a point of the team win with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Castellon in the top-seeded singles match. The win is Porcic's 53rd career singles win -- one shy of moving into a tie for fifth place on the program's all-time singles wins list.
Lindsey Wilson closed out the team match in the fourth-seeded match as Edberg Espinoza won his match after Lopez was forced to retire after suffering an injury in the match. The win gave Lindsey Wilson the 5-1 lead and the team win.
Union won the final three matches to close the match at 5-4.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (Ky.) for a Mid-South Conference match at the Lackey Tennis Center.
