Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 6-ranked men's tennis team defeated No. 7-ranked William Woods (Mo.) Sunday 5-3 in its home opener at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
Denis Porcic and Camilo Erazo got the first point of the day for Lindsey Wilson (2-0) with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles against Oscar Barreiro and Benjamin Tzchentke. William Woods (2-3) tied the match with a victory in the second-seeded doubles match. Javier Callejo Christopher Vleeming Ortiz defeated Javier Raya and Edberg Espinoza 8-3. In the No. 3 doubles flight, Ivan Solans Diaz and Steven Espinoza def. Jesus Amezcua and Christian Barbieri 9-8 (7-5) to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Erazo defeated Barreiro in straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles flight to put the Blue Raiders ahead 3-1 in the match. Edberg Espinoza dropped the first set of the second-seeded singles flight to Barbieri 6-2. He then won the next two sets 7-5, 6-3 to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-1 lead. The Owls cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-2 after picking up a win at No. 1 singles. Porcic took the first set against Callejo 6-3. Callejo then won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to capture the victory.
Vleeming Ortiz got the Owls their final point of the match when he defeated Steven Espinoza in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Solans Diaz clinched the match at No. 5 singles when he defeated Nathan Cooke 6-1, 6-0. The No. 6 singles match went unfinished after the match was clinched at No. 5 singles.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday when they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky to face Cumberlands (Ky.) at 2 p.m. CT.
