No. 4 Men's Tennis battles back for 5-4 win over No. 8 Cumberland

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Javier Raya came back from a set down to win his match and help No. 4 Lindsey Wilson men's tennis overcome No. 8 Cumberland (Tenn.) today at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders (9-0, 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference) overcame a pair of deficits to remain unbeaten this season.

Raya forced a decisive third set with a 6-3 win in the second set after dropping the opener 6-1. He captured the third set 6-4 on his second match point to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-4 team win.

Denis Porcic and Camilo Erazo won the lone doubles point for the Blue Raiders defeating Francisco Fernandez and Pau Grabuleda Cruanas 8-2.

Cumberland (15-2, 3-1) won the next two points with wins at the second and third doubles matches to take the 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Ramon Puertolas and Riccardo Ferraris edged out Edberg Espinoza and Steven Espinoza 9-7 in the third match while Axel Lucich and Thiago Lopes beat Raya and Ivan Solans Diaz 8-4.

Porcic evened the team match with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Cruanas in the top-seeded match. Porcic -- ranked No. 3 in the NAIA -- is 8-1 on the season, including winning seven straight singles matches.

Cumberland reclaimed the lead with a win at No. 3 singles to go up 3-2. Ferraris -- ranked No. 47 -- beat No. 15 Diaz 6-2, 6-2 in the only ranked match of the day.

Lindsey Wilson won the next two matches to take the 4-3 lead.

Erazo pulled Lindsey Wilson even at 3-3 with a win at No. 2 singles match. He upset No. 28 Puertolas 6-3, 6-3 to improve to 7-1 this season in singles play. Edberg Espinoza posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Fernandez in the fourth-seeded match to pull Lindsey Wilson in front. Espinoza is also 7-1 this season in singles play.

Lucich tied the team match at 4-4 with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Steven Espinoza to setup the Raya heroics.

The win is Lindsey Wilson's sixth this season over a team either ranked for receiving votes in the national poll.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action 2 p.m. CT as the Blue Raiders host Pikeville (Ky.) at Baughman Tennis Complex.
