Men's Tennis clinches MSC regular season crown with 9-0 victory over Shawnee State

COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team did not drop a set in a 9-0 win over Shawnee State (Ohio) this morning at the Dr. William E Daehler Tennis Center. It is the second time this season LWC has not dropped a set in a match.

The win marks the 14th time in program history the Blue Raiders have won the Mid-South Conference regular season crown and is the 4th consecutive year LWC has accomplished the feat, dating back to the 2015 season.

The Blue Raiders (12-0, 6-0 in the MSC) were able to jump out to an early 3-0 lead over the Bears (5-17, 0-6 MSC) after doubles play.

Denis Porcic and Camilo Erazo scored Lindsey Wilson's first points of the match with an 8-0 victory over Casper Nolte and Matt Bryant in the top seeded doubles match. Ivan Solans Diaz and Javier Raya increased the LWC lead to 2-0 when they defeated CJ Burk and Nate Hinze 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles match.

Edberg Espinoza and Steven Espinoza closed out doubles play with an 8-2 win of their own over Zach Colley and Shane Hitchens in the No. 3 doubles match.

In the No. 1 singles match, No. 5-ranked Porcic defeated Hinze in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-0 lead with five matches remaining. Erazo then defeated Nolte in straight sets in the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the match.

In the No. 3 singles match Solans didn't drop a point, defeating Colley 6-0, 6-0 and in the No. 4 singles match Edberg Espinoza defeated Burke in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to increase the LWC lead to 7-0.

Raya defeated Bryant 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles match as Steven Espinoza earned the Blue Raiders final point in the No. 6 singles match against Hitchens 6-0, 6-0 to give the Blue Raiders the 9-0 victory.

The win extends Lindsey Wilson's best start to a season to 12 matches.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday, April 20, as the Blue Raiders travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky to compete at the MSC tournament.
