Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Cumberlands (Ky.) 70-62 on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center in Mid-South Conference action.
Reagan Turner again led the Blue Raiders (13-6, 4-2 MSC) to a victory scoring 25 points after going a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe and 2-of-3 from deep. Rose Mary Jackson finished the game with a career-high 11 points as Molly Stone was the only other Blue Raider in double figures with a season-high 10 points. Gerda Paulauskaite had a game-high 14 boards as she added five blocks and three steals.
Cumberlands (12-9, 0-6 MSC) shot 33.9 percent from the field to Lindsey Wilsons's even 30 percent from the field mark. The Blue Raiders controlled the grass, grabbing nine more rebounds than the Patriots with 46 for the game.
Lindsey Wilson got off to a slow start, going 0-of-6 from the field including two turnovers across the first four minutes of action before Stone scored LWC's first points. Trailing 4-2, the Blue Raiders managed to find an offensive rhythm outscoring Cumberland's 18-to-10 to take a 20-14 advantage after the first quarter. LWC closed out the quarter a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe and connected on two of three attempts from deep.
Cumberlands trimmed the Blue Raider lead to two points twice early in the second quarter before they tied the game at 26-26 with 6:38 on the clock. The Blue Raiders would push their lead back to four points minutes later, but a 7-2 run by the Patriots would give Cumberlands a one point, 33-32 advantage with just under four to play.
The Blue Raiders and the Patriots would trade baskets till the 1:21 mark, but the Blue Raiders finished the half going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to take a 41-39 advantage into halftime.
Turner led all scorers with 13 points as the Blue Raiders shot just 29.7 percent from the field after connecting on 11-of-37 attempts. The Patriots were efficient from the field making 47.1 percent of their attempts as LWC scored 13 second-chance points in the half after outrebounding Cumberlands 27-18.
Both squads traded baskets to open the second half as Cumberlands managed to tie the game at 45 with five minutes gone. From there the Blue Raiders managed a 5-0 run that vaulted them back into the lead.
The Patriots would trim the LWC advantage to one with 33 seconds on the clock before hitting a last-second shot to take the lead at 53-51 with one quarter to play.
Both teams struggled from the field in the early goings of the final quarter as the only points would come from the charity stripe. The Blue Raiders took advantage of their opportunities to take a 56-55 lead with just over six minutes to play.
Turner made the quarter's first attempt from the field at the 5:33 mark to give LWC a three-point advantage. The basket spurred on an 8-2 run by the Blue Raiders as they found points on four straight possessions to take a 64-58 lead with just under three minutes to play.
The Blue Raiders would hold on to the lead, taking the game by a final score of 70-62.
Shayla Simpson led the Patriots with 16 points as Kayla Bruner chipped in with 13.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday in Marietta, Georgia when they take on Life (Ga.) at 1 p.m. CT.
