Men's Tennis falls to Reinhardt in top-10 battle

WALESKA, Ga. -- No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis dropped its season opener today 6-3 at No. 5 Reinhardt (Ga.).

The Blue Raiders (0-1) fell behind early, losing all three hard-fought doubles points. Lindsey Wilson won half of the six singles matches, ultimately falling to the Eagles (2-0).

Lindsey Wilson had a match point in the top-seeded doubles match and led the third-seeded match 7-3 before losing both matches in a tiebreak.

Camilo Erazo and Tiago Almeida dropped the top doubles match to Sam Alexander and Martin Mendoza while Xavier Vicent and Santiago Diaz fell to Mario Belloni Tomas and Jordi Puig.

Reinhardt's Myrohn Miranda and Bruno Juarez secured the first point of the day in the second-seeded doubles match, beating Nicolas Torrealba and Javier Raya 8-6.

Leading 3-0, the Eagles needed just two points to take the team match.

Alexander pushed Lindsey Wilson on the brink of the loss with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Raya in the third-seeded singles match. Mendoza secured the decisive point in the top-seeded match beating Erazo 6-1, 6-1.

Almeida claimed the first Lindsey Wilson point when Miranda retired in the second set. Almeida led 6-4, 3-1 when the match was halted.

Torrealba and Vicent each won super-set tiebreakers to claim their first collegiate wins.

Torrealba defeated Pau Pujadas 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) while Vicent outlasted Juarez 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2).

Lindsey Wilson returns to action Noon CT on Saturday, Feb. 23, at No. 14-ranked Union (Ky.) in Barbourville, Ky.
