Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- No. 20-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball ended its two-game losing streak today with an impressive 70-55 win at No. 10-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) at the Waller Gymnasium.
Four Blue Raiders tallied double-digit scoring days to help Lindsey Wilson (17-8, 7-4 in the Mid-South Conference) end a five-game losing streak to the Bears.
Along with the balanced offensive attack, the Lindsey Wilson defense proved to be the catalyst in the upset. Lindsey Wilson limited Shawnee State -- who entered the game averaging 82.8 points and shooting nearly 45 percent from the field -- to 35.7 percent (20-of-56) shooting for the game and 27 points below its season average.
The Blue Raiders also out-rebounded the Bears (20-6, 7-3) 30-21.
Lindsey Wilson built as much as an eight-point first-quarter lead thanks to shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the field in the first 10 minutes. Lindsey Wilson -- who trailed just once in the game in the first quarter -- led the Bears 18-13 at the end of the first period
The Blue Raiders extended the lead in the second quarter to 10 points on two different occasions, including taking a 31-21 lead into the half. Lindsey Wilson continued to impose its will over the Bears in the third quarter -- extending its lead to as many as 19 before settling for a 49-36 lead through three quarters.
Shawnee State opened the final quarter with the first four points to climb within nine (49-40). It would be the last time Lindsey Wilson would not lead by double digits in the game.
Reagan Turner connected on a pair of free throws and J'Nayah Hall added a field goal to push the lead back to a baker's dozen. Following a pair of Shawnee State free throws, Jynea Harris banked in a runner and Heidi Huffman drained a 3-pointer to extend the Lindsey Wilson lead to 58-41 with 7:13 left in the game.
Turner -- the conference's leading scorer -- finished with a game-high 23 points while Hall added 18. Huffman hit five 3-pointers for 15 points and Harris chipped in 10.
The Bears managed to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 11 once but could get no closer.
The Blue Raiders finished shooting 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the floor, including 46.2 (6-of-13) from 3-point range. The Bears made just four of their 20 threes.
Sienna King led Shawnee State with 14 points.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 14, as the Blue Raiders host Cumberland (Tenn.) at Biggers Sports Center.
