Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis dropped its regular-season finale today, losing to Cumberland (Tenn.) 5-4 at the Tommy Gray Memorial Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Lindsey Wilson must now share the regular season Mid-South Conference title with Cumberland. Both teams finished conference play with 5-1 records. Based on their head-to-head win, Cumberland earns the tournament's top seed while Lindsey Wilson falls to the No. 2 seed.
With the shared title, Lindsey Wilson earns its 15th MSC regular season championship in the program's history.
The Blue Raiders (7-6) stumbled down the stretch after building a 4-0 lead over the Phoenix (12-5).
Lindsey Wilson won all three doubles points.
Camilo Erazo and Javier Raya upset NAIA's 22nd-ranked Pau Grabuleda Cruanas and Alejo Bagnera 8-2 in the top-seeded match. Santiago Diaz and Xavier Vicent quickly followed with an 8-4 win over Thiago Lopes and Francisco Fernandez Meaca in the second-seeded match.
Tiago Almeida and Nicolas Garcia claimed the third doubles point, beating Ramon Puertolas and Axel Lucich in a tiebreak, 7-4.
Erazo extended the lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cruanas in the top-seeded match.
That's when Cumberland mounted its comeback.
Bagnera upset 41st ranked Almeida 6-3, 6-3 while Meaca defeated Garcia 6-4, 6-3 to trim the deficit to 4-2.
Puertolas scored the third straight team point for the Phoenix with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Vicent. Lopes tied the team match at 4-4 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Steven Espinoza in the sixth-seeded match.
Lucich completed the comeback win with a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0 win over Diaz in the fifth-seeded match to help Cumberland claim a share of the conference title.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Thursday against No. 7-seed Shawnee State (Ohio) in the opening round of the conference tournament. The time of the match will be announced by MSC officials on Tuesday with the release of the tournament bracket.
