Men's Tennis falls to William Woods in Top-10 Battle

FULTON, Mo. -- No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis' four-match winning streak came to an end today with a 5-4 loss at No. 9 William Woods (Mo.) at Suzanne Neal Tennis Complex.

William Woods (10-2) won four of the six singles matches to pull off the upset. Lindsey Wilson falls to 4-3 on the season with the setback.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles action.

William Woods' Christopher Vleeming and Javier Callejo -- ranked 15th in the NAIA -- claimed the first point with an 8-1 win over Xavier Vicent and Santiago Diaz in the second-seeded doubles match.

Lindsey Wilson bounced back to win the final two doubles matches.

Nicolas Garcia and Javier Raya beat Jesus Amezcua and Zach Frisbie 8-4 in the third-seeded match to even the match at 1-1.

Camilo Erazo and Tiago Almeida pulled off the upset of the day in the top-seeded doubles match. The Blue Raider tandem knocked off fifth-ranked Oscar Barreiro and Aaron Westerlund 8-5 to give Lindsey Wilson the 2-1 lead entering singles play.

The Blue Raiders increased their lead winning the first completed singles match.

Almeida won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 2 singles match for the 3-1 lead.

William Woods won the next three matches to grab the 4-3 lead. All three losses came against ranked foes at three, one and five singles.

Diaz evened the match at 4-4 with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win over No. 45-ranked Amezcua

William Woods ultimately claimed the team win with a three-set win in the sixth-seeded match. Sam Bird outlasted Steven Espinoza 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to close out the match.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, April 5, as the Blue Raiders face No. 3-ranked Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) in Marion, Indiana.
