Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis split a pair of matches today at the Indiana Wesleyan Invite at Sutter Tennis Complex.
The eighth-ranked Blue Raiders (5-5) dropped a heartbreaker, 5-4, to No. 16 Union (Ky.) but rebounded to beat No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan 5-2.
Union won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.
Nicolas Garcia and Javier Raya won their match beating Santiago Diaz and Ewan Mckinnie 8-4 in the third-seeded match.
Lindsey Wilson seized the lead winning at the third and second-seeded matches.
Xavier Vicent upset ninth-ranked Srdan Pejic 6-3, 6-3 in the third-seeded match while Tiago Almeida beat 46th-ranked Simon Campos 7-5, 6-1 to give Lindsey Wilson the 3-2 lead.
Union pulled even as Lois Castellon upset 23rd-ranked Camilo Erazo 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the top-seeded match. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead with a win at the fifth-seeded match only to have Lindsey Wilson pull even as Steven Espinoza beat Alex Kostka 6-3, 6-2 in the sixth-seeded match.
Union pulled off the team upset with a three-set win in the fourth-seeded match. Mark Khuenel outlasted Garcia 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 for the 5-4 Bulldog win.
Lindsey Wilson started better in the Indiana Wesleyan win.
Erazo and Raya cruised in the top-seeded doubles match while Espinoza and Vicent won a tiebreaker in the third-seeded match to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
The Blue Raiders won three of the four matches that were completed to take the team win.
Erazo, Garcia, and Espinoza each won in straight sets to help Lindsey Wilson end its three-match losing streak.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April 10, as the Blue Raiders travel to Pikeville (Ky.) for a Mid-South Conference match.
