Men's Tennis beats Texas A&M-Texarkana 7-2 in NAIA First Round

MOBILE, Ala. -- No. 12-seed Lindsey Wilson men's tennis beat 21st-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana 7-2 today in the NAIA National Tournament First Round at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (11-6) advance to tomorrow's second round to face eighth-seeded William Carey (Miss.).

Lindsey Wilson took two of the three doubles points to take the early 2-1 lead.

Santiago Diaz and Xavier Vicent improve to 9-3 as a duo on the season with an 8-2 win over Gavin Beach and Alberto Cabrillo on court two.

Nicolas Garcia and Tiago Almeida pushed the Blue Raiders in front 2-0 with an 8-5 win over Kevin Tsati-onla and Gonzalo Vega in the third-seeded match. Garcia and Almeida improve to 8-1 on the season with their seventh consecutive doubles win.

Texas A&M-Texarkana (7-7) salvaged the final doubles point on court one. Cole Guy and Alejandro Oviedo -- ranked 16th in the NAIA in doubles -- outlasted Camilo Erazo and Javier Raya 9-7.

The Blue Raiders dominated singles play, winning five of the six singles matches en route to the 7-2 win.

Erazo won the first match in the only ranked singles battle of the day. Erazo -- ranked 30th in the NAIA -- upset 14th-ranked Guy 6-3, 6-2 in the top-singles match to give Lindsey Wilson the 3-1 advantage. Erazo wins his sixth straight to improve to 10-5 on the season.

Garcia dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tsati-onla in the fifth-seeded match to push the Blue Raiders within a team point of advancing. Garcia moves to 11-4 on the season with the win.

Oviedo collected the final point of the day for Texas A&M-Texarkana with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Vicent in the second-seeded match.

Diaz claimed the decisive point on court four with a three-set win. He defeated Beach 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-2 lead and win.

Steven Espinoza and Almeida -- ranked 41st in the NAIA -- each picked up wins to close out the match.

Lindsey Wilson faces William Carey at 9 a.m. CT on Wednesday.
