Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - No. 12-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis fell 5-2 to No. 5-seeded William Carey (Miss.) today in the NAIA National Tournament's second round at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The loss closes out the Blue Raiders' season with an 11-7 record. William Carey (14-3) moves on to face No. 4 seed Point (Ga.) on Thursday.
William Carey managed to open doubles play with a 2-0 lead heading into the third group. Akanit Pumjit and Atikan Juprang defeated Santiago Diaz and Xavier Vicent 8-1 to finish first. Elvyn Nguyen and Hugo Robuchon followed with an 8-5 victory over Camilo Erazo and Javier Raya.
LWC's first point of the day came from the final doubles match as Nicolas Garcia and Tiago Almeida managed to slip away with an 8-6 win over Ben Griedelbach and Enzo Simon.
WCU began the singles competition with a victory as well. Robuchon was able to defeat Diaz 6-3 in both competitions.
No. 30 Erazo finished singles play with a 6-0 and 6-4 victories over No. 16-ranked Nguyen to grab Lindsey Wilson's final point of the day.
Vicent fell to No. 10 Pumjit 6-3 and 6-4 in the second singles match before No. 44-ranked Simon closed out the day for William Carey with a 6-4 and 7-6 victory.
The final two singles matches were in progress but fell unfinished due to William Carey scoring the decisive point to claim the victory.
Garcia beat Juprang 7-6 in the opening set and was up 3-0 in the second when the match was halted.
Griedelbach and Raya were the final pair in progress. Raya managed to open the match with a 6-1 victory before falling 6-4 in the second. The third contest was 2-1 in favor of Raya before it was called ultimately called off.
The Blue Raiders close out the season as William Carey manages to move on to the quarterfinals to face Point on Thursday.
