Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team upset No. 7-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) in Biggers Sports Center on Thursday night. The Blue Raiders improve to 14-3 and 3-1 in the Mid-South Conference.
Lindsey Wilson finished the game shooting 58.8 percent from the floor and a season-high 66.7 from behind the arc. The Blue Raiders ended with a slight 30 to 28 advantage on the boards.
Five Blue Raiders scored double-digit points led by Reagan Turner with 30. J'Nayah Hall contributed 15 points while recording a team-high in rebounds (7) and assists (4). DeAsia Outlaw, Jynea Harris and Rose Mary Jackson joined them with 16, 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Shawnee State scored twice before the Blue Raiders were able to get a shot off to garner an early 4-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson then responded with a 15-1 run to lead the Bears 15-5 midway through the first quarter. Turner managed six points on the run.
The Blue Raiders and Bears exchanged baskets the remaining four minutes to make it 21-9 at the end of the quarter. Turner led all players after the opening quarter with eight points and three assists.
The Bears scored on their first eight possessions in the second quarter but the Blue Raiders responded with baskets of their own to never let the lead get below seven points at 34-27. Hall tallied six points, two steals, a rebound and an assist to lead Lindsey Wilson's 10-2 scoring run to close out the half.
The Blue Raiders shot 66.7 percent from the floor while the Bears managed an even 50 percent. Lindsey Wilson made 10-of-12 free throws and out-rebounded Shawnee State 13 to 11.
The Blue Raiders would extend the lead to 18 early in the third quarter to make it 49-31. Shawnee State cut the lead to ten at 56-46 with 3:22 remaining in the quarter. Shawnee State shot 58.8 from the floor compared to Lindsey Wilson's 46.7 while outrebounding Lindsey Wilson 13 to seven. LWC led 62-51 entering the fourth.
The Bears did not go away in the final quarter but would never cut the lead to below 10. The Blue Raiders shot 58.3 percent from the field while going 11-for-14 from the free-throw line. Lindsey Wilson accumulated 10 rebounds while Shawnee State recorded five.
The Blue Raiders are back in action Saturday, Jan. 11 against MSC opponent Pikeville (Ky.) at 2 p.m. CT in Biggers Sports Center.
