Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 14 Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team picked up a 68-40 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) in a Mid-South Conference matchup on Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (18-4, 7-2 MSC) have now won 12 straight games against the Phoenix (7-13, 1-8 MSC) dating back to February 26, 2015. Lindsey Wilson had three players in double figures led by DeAsia Outlaw and Reagan Turner who each scored 17 points. J'Nayah Hall was the other Blue Raider with double-digit points with 10.
The Blue Raiders opened up the game on an 8-2 run propelled by back-to-back threes from Harris and Turner. Cumberland cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 12-7 before the Blue Raiders ended the quarter scoring the last four points to take a 16-7 advantage. The Lindsey Wilson defense limited the Phoenix to just 37.5 percent from the field and forced nine turnovers in the first quarter.
After a three to begin the second quarter by Cumberland, Lindsey Wilson then went on a quick 5-0 run to increase its lead to 21-10. Leading 21-12 the Blue Raiders went on an 8-0 run that spanned over two minutes increasing their lead to 29-12 with 3:38 to play in the half. The two teams continued to exchange points to end the second quarter as Lindsey Wilson took a 33-19 lead into the half.
Outlaw led the way for Lindsey Wilson in the first half with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Hall was also in double figures for the Blue Raiders scoring 10 points. Lindsey Wilson shot 38.2 percent from the field in the half while the Phoenix shot 38.1 percent.
Cumberland opened the second half with a made basket before Lindsey Wilson increased its lead to 40-23 with a 7-2 run. Leading 40-25, the Blue Raiders scored eight of the next 10 points increasing their lead to 48-27 with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter. After a Phoenix basket cut the Blue Raider lead to 48-29 Lindsey Wilson ended the third quarter on an 8-2 run increasing its lead to 56-31.
The Blue Raiders began the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run increasing their lead to 62-33 with under five minutes to play. Cumberland responded with a quick 5-0 run before Lindsey Wilson closed out the game scoring six of the last eight points to come away with the 68-40 victory.
Katherine Griffith led the way for the Phoenix scoring a team-high 15 points while Ashlyn Pittman added seven.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday when they host Life (Ga.) in an MSC matchup at 2 p.m. CT tipoff at Biggers Sports Center.
