Women's Basketball beats Pikeville 68-55 in MSC Action

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team made use of a stifling defensive effort and efficient shooting in the first half to roll past Pikeville (Ky.) 68-55 on Thursday evening at the UPIKE Gym.

Lindsey Wilson (20-4, 9-2 MSC) never trailed in the contest, building their largest lead of the night at 20 points late in the second quarter. DeAsia Outlaw filled the stat sheet while recording her fourth double-double of the season. The senior finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Reagan Turner added 14 points of her own while also dishing four assists. J'Nayah Hall had 12 points as Jynea Harris and Rose Mary Jackson each finished with 10.

The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 41.7 percent from the floor as Pikeville (14-11, 4-7 MSC) managed a 40.7 mark after a going just 8-of-28 from the field in the first half. LWC held a slight 40-36 rebound advantage in the game as LWC recorded 11 steals while forcing the Bears into 18 turnovers.

Lindsey Wilson rolled in the opening quarter building a 22-13 lead. The Blue Raiders had their way with the Bears early, taking a 16-2 lead over the first seven minutes. Pikeville went just 1-of-10 from the field while committing five turnovers over the span.

The Blue Raiders maintained their nine-point advantage over the first four minutes of action in the second quarter before a 10-0 run pushed their lead to 36-17 at the 3:10 mark. Oldham knocked down a corner three during the final moment of the quarter to give LWC a 39-19 lead at the break. Pikeville failed to score a point over 5:44 of action, hitting just their third and final shot of the quarter with 55 seconds to play.

Lindsey Wilson shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the half while limiting Pikeville to a 28.5 mark. The Blue Raider defensive effort resulted in seven steals and 11 Bears turnovers across the first 20 minutes.

Pikeville came to life in the second half as they closed out the game shooting 14-of-26 from the floor while outscoring LWC 36-29 over the final two quarters. The Bears managed to trim the LWC lead to as few as nine points with 1:44 to play before the Blue Raiders closed things out with a 68-55 win.

Kayla Mullins was the only Pikeville player in double figures with 11 points as Yurleis Estrada had a team-high seven rebounds.

The Blue Raiders stay in the road for their next competition as they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday to take on the Shawnee State at 1 p.m. CT.
