Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team's eight-game winning streak came to an abrupt halt tonight with a 77-58 loss to No. 9-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) at Waller Gymnasium.
The 17th-ranked Blue Raiders struggled offensively throughout the game shooting only 30 percent (20-of-66) from the floor. But it was a 10-minute cold spell that ultimately doomed Lindsey Wilson's hopes for the road upset.
Trailing 35-32 with 8:29 left in the third quarter, Lindsey Wilson missed its next nine shots and 18 of its next 20 to fall into a hole it could not recover from. The Bears (13-3, 7-3 in the Mid-South Conference) used the Lindsey Wilson drought to turn a three-point advantage into a 60-37 lead two minutes into the fourth quarter.
Turnovers also proved to be an issue for the Blue Raiders on the night, as the team recorded 17 miscues that resulted in 20 Shawnee State points.
Hailey Ison and Jordyn Stephens led the Blue Raiders (12-2, 7-2) with 17 points each. Sydnie Hall chipped in 10.
Ison, who had a double-double last time out, secured a bucket and a foul to cut the Shawnee State lead to 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Bears increased their lead to as many as 10 points in the first half before settling for a 35-27 halftime lead.
The Blue Raiders started the third quarter looking to build some momentum. Stephens knocked down a quick 3-pointer while Bree Glover picked up two blocks on defense.
Lindsey Wilson's frigid shooting coupled with turnovers and Shawnee State's transition offense turned out to be too much for the Blue Raiders to handle in the third and early stages of the fourth quarter.
Brandie Snow posted a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Bears while Marnae Holland dropped 16 points.
Lindsey Wilson continues on the road this Saturday as they take on a recent opponent in No. 4 Thomas More (Ky.) at 1:30 p.m. CT in Crestview Hills, Ky.
