Box Score CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson football used its first Bluegrass Division road game to provide its most complete game of the season in a 47-0 win over host Thomas More (Ky.) at Republic Bank Field.
The Blue Raider defense recorded the program's fourth shutout while limiting the Saints (2-3, 1-1 in the MSC Bluegrass Division) to 203 total yards of offense. The Lindsey Wilson offense tallied a season-high 544 yards, including 374 yards through the air.
The Lindsey Wilson special teams provided a special performance with a pair of kickoff returns for a touchdown and outstanding coverage throughout the night.
The complete-game effort helps the Blue Raiders improve to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in divisional play.
The Blue Raiders scored the only points of the opening quarter, marching 85 yards on 10 plays to take a 7-0 lead. Cameron Dukes completed the drive with a three-yard plunge for his second rushing touchdown of the season to push Lindsey Wilson in front midway through the opening quarter.
With points on the board, the Lindsey Wilson defense turned up the pressure. In Thomas More's first five drives, the Blue Raiders forced three punts, a turnover on downs, and an interception.
The first turnover of the night came early in the second quarter off a Robert Carter interception. The pick was his NAIA-leading fifth of the season and the 11th of his career -- a program record.
The Blue Raiders took advantage of the turnover six plays later as Ian Sauter connected on a 25-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson extended its lead to 24-0 heading into halftime.
After the Blue Raider defense forced a three-and-out, Lindsey Wilson covered 68 yards in five plays for a 17-0 advantage. Dukes hit Noel Patterson in the back of the endzone from 41-yards out to increase the lead. Patterson was one of 11 receivers to catch a pass in the game.
Following a Luke Bowman interception to end Thomas More's best drive of the opening half at the Lindsey Wilson 30-yard line, Dukes found Kobe Belcher out of the backfield for a 70-yard touchdown for a 24-0 lead. The catch and touchdown are Belcher's first of the season.
Dukes finished the game with a season-high 365 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Lindsey Wilson carried its first-half momentum into the second half.
Jaylen Boyd took the third-quarter kickoff from five yards deep in his own endzone and raced for an official 100-yard return for a touchdown -- the longest return in program history to give Lindsey Wilson a 31-0 lead 14 seconds into the quarter.
After the LWC defense authored another three-and-out -- one of four on the night -- Thomas More punter Elgin Phillips pinned the Blue Raiders on their own two-yard line.
Dukes orchestrated a 20-play, 98-yard touchdown drive to extend the lead to 38-0. The 20-play drive is the longest of the season, covering nine minutes and 58 seconds. The Blue Raiders dominated time of possession tonight, holding the ball for 39:48 compared to Thomas More's 20:12. Darius Clark completed the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run -- his second of the season.
On the ensuing kickoff, Logan Collier sprinted down the field and upended Thomas More return man Kolton Reeves at the 10-yard line, setting up a long field. Following a botched snap that put the Saints on the one-yard line, the Blue Raider defense recorded its first two-point safety of the season as Maleek Jarrett was swallowed by the Lindsey Wilson defensive line to extend the lead to 40-0.
The Blue Raiders wasted little time adding to their lead.
D'Mauriae VanCleave received the ensuing free-kick punt and returned it 75 yards for the second special teams' score of the night.
The Blue Raider defense faced just one drive in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout.
Peyton Doles led the Blue Raiders with six tackles. Bowman recorded three stops, one tackle for a loss, and the interception. As a unit, the defense recorded seven tackles for a loss.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 16, as the Blue Raiders host No. 8-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) at Parnell Family Stadium.
