Archery Wins Five Titles at 3-D National Championship

FOLEY, Ala. – The Lindsey Wilson archery team took home a third-place finish at the 2021 3-D National Championship on Saturday. In total, one individual and four teams took home national titles at the event.

Austin Taylor claimed an individual national championship during the men's compound after an impressive second day of shooting. Sitting in second after Friday's rounds with a 230, he scored a 264 on Saturday to jet into the lead with 494 points. He recorded the most 12 of the field with 33.

The Blue Raiders came to life in the team events claim four of the top spots in their respective disciplines. One mixed team, two men's and one women's team captured national championships.

Taylor Bell and Courtney Blevens teamed up for the mixed compound to take first place. Bell, Evan Mahanna, and Wyatt Burtts also finished in first during the men's team bowhunter. Gabe Crenshaw, T Sanchez, and Christian Blair added another first-place finish in the men's team recurve. Casey Stickfort, Britney McCarthy and Sarah McCarthy finished first during the women's barebow team event.

Bell finished as the runner-up in men's bowhunter with 472 points as he missed out on first by just two points. He finished with a tournament-high 25 12's. Hunter Current just missed out on a podium finish in fourth place of the men's barebow, finishing with 349 points.

Sanchez and Crenshaw finished in fifth and sixth place in the men's recurve. The pair racked up 412 and 403 points, respectively. Blair turned in a 10th place finish in the event.

In the women's barebow, Britney McCarthy finished in fourth place as Sarah McCarthy took eighth place. The duo finished with 329 and 313 points, respectively. Casie Metcalf took eighth place in the women's recurve with 371 points as Madison Loveless took 10th with 369 points.

Courtney Blevens took home the best finish by a Blue Raider in third during the women's bowhunter. She scored 448 points. Aunika Selch finished in eight as Anna Krampe took ninth in the event with 403 points each.

Bell and Natalie Brockman teamed up in the mixed compound for second place as Current and Britney McCarthy added a second during mixed barebow. Sanchez and Metcalf just missed out on the podium in the mixed recurve with a fourth-place finish.

Taylor, Aiden Teague and Sean Neal finished runner-up during the men's compound while Ashley Scriven, Brockman and Olivia Poston took third on the women's side. Metcalf, Loveless, and Ryli Valliere took third place during the women's recurve.

The trio of Blevens, Krampe, and Aunika Selch took fourth place in the women's bowhunter as Current, Jordan Elam and Jacob Cook added a fourth-place finish in the men's barebow.

Thirty-two teams competed at the event with over 350 competitors.

The Blue Raiders now turn their attention to outdoor activities with the USA Archery Outdoor Regionals on April 13 in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
