Box Score MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team picked up a 41-30 win over Bethel (Tenn.), as the Blue Raider defense made use of four interceptions to push LWC to a perfect 8-0 on the season.
With the win, the Blue Raiders clinch at least a share of the MSC Bluegrass Division Regular-Season title for the third straight season. A win in one of their two remaining games, Lindsey Wilson will clinch the outright title for the fifth time in program history.
Cameron Dukes and Jaylen Boyd each had career days for the Blue Raider offense. Dukes picked up his 100th career touchdown pass while Boyd managed to tally his 33rd and 34th career rushing touchdowns, a new program record. He also broke the 100-yard rushing mark for the 11th time in his career with 111, which is also a program-best.
The Lindsey Wilson offense finished the day with a season-high 32 first downs for a total of 421 yards. The Blue Raiders defense allowed 388 yards of offense by Bethel but Cashawn Beasley, Robert Carter, Eddie Davis, and Jo Fluker each recorded interceptions, which proved to be the difference-maker in the game.
Lindsey Wilson scored on their opening possession when Ian Sauter nailed a 35-yard attempt through the middle of the uprights. The Blue Raiders converted on two fourth down's making use of two similar pitches to Boyd for the conversions to keep the scoring drive alive.
The game-opening drive chewed up seven minutes and eight seconds of clock and went 16 plays for 52-yards. Sauter's field goal was his longest of the season.
Lindsey Wilson scored their first touchdown of the game on a Boyd one-yard rush. The score was his 33rd career rushing touchdown. The drive lasted 5:40 and spanned from the first to the second quarter, lasting 12 plays.
Bethel scored on their next possession, a 24-yard field goal from Luis Morales. The points were the first a team has scored on the Blue Raiders since the fourth quarter against Cumberland (Tenn.) on Oct. 2. The Blue Raiders had held their last three opponents scoreless as they hadn't been scored on in 13 quarters of play for a total of 209 minutes.
Lindsey Wilson's defense bounced back on the next Bethel drive when Davis recorded an interception at the Bethel 32-yard line. The play set up the Blue Raiders in scoring position deep inside Wildcat territory.
It took the Blue Raiders just four plays to find the endzone when Noel Patterson took a pass from behind the line of scrimmage from Dukes at the 12-yard line. He made multiple Bethel defenders miss before a diving effort resulted in the LWC score. Lindsey Wilson increased their lead to 17-3 with just under four minutes to play in the half.
Following a Bethel three-and-out, Lindsey Wilson tacked on a Sauter field goal with no time left on the clock to increase their lead to 17 at the break. The Blue Raiders drove 46-yards across 12 plays to the Bethel one-yard line before settling for a field goal.
Bethel cut the Lindsey Wilson lead in half on the opening possession of the third quarter. Nolan Chowbay found Avont Burrus for 42-yards and the score.
After a failed Lindsey Wilson offensive possession, the Blue Raider defense got the ball back on the first play of Bethel's drive. Carter picked off the pass, his 12th in his career to set up an LWC score.
Lindsey Wilson wasted no time, scoring a touchdown just five plays later after starting at the Bethel 43-yard line. Clark capped off the drive when he broke around the right end of his offensive line, rushing down the sideline and into the endzone from 19-yards out.
Fluker picked up the Blue Raiders third interception of the game on the next Wildcat possession when he picked off Chowbay at the Lindsey Wilson 32-yard line. Lindsey Wilson took a 27-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Following an interception by Dukes, Bethel took over on the LWC 42-yard line. Five plays later Chowbay found James Dixon for 19-yards in the corner of the end zone. The score trimmed the LWC lead to 27-17 in the early stages of the fourth quarter.
Dukes bounced back on his next possession, finding Joshua Lewis for a 60-yard connection over the middle. The drive lasted just three plays and covered 87-yards. The touchdown toss gave Dukes 100 for his career.
The Wildcats wouldn't go away lightly, trimming the LWC lead to just ten points once again on their next possession. Facing a fourth and 20 from the LWC 33-yard line, Chowbay found Ray'Quan Wilson over the middle for the score.
Lindsey Wilson was forced to punt on their next possession giving the ball back to Bethel with six minutes to play. Beasley came up with his second interception of the afternoon on a 4th-and-20 with 2:43 to play. He returned the ball to the Bethel 24-yard line. Three plays later -- all rushes by Boyd -- resulted in an LWC touchdown.
Bethel scored their final points of the game with 46 seconds to play, trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead to 41-30 after they failed on their two-point conversion attempt. Bethel's onside kick was recovered by the Blue Raiders as two LWC kneel-downs put the game away.
David Hylick led the way for the LWC defense with five tackles, four solo and one assisted, adding two tackles for a loss.
Lindsey Wilson football returns to the field on Saturday, Nov. 6 for their final regular-season home game. Kickoff against Campbellsville (Ky.) in the Battle of Highway 55 is slated for 1:30 pm CT at Parnell Family Stadium.
