Women's Basketball Closes Out Julie Costello Memorial Classic

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team closed out the Julie Costello Memorial Classic on Saturday morning losing 63-84 to No. 6-ranked Carroll (Mont.).

Sydnie Hall led the Blue Raiders (4-3, 1-1 MSC) in scoring with 17 points in the game while Lucy Patterson led the team in rebounding collecting two in the match. As a team, Lindsey Wilson shot 39.3 percent overall and were outrebounded by the Saints 38-15 while the Blue Raiders had nine turnovers.

The Saints opened the match with all the momentum as they put down back-to-back layups to open a 4-0 gap to begin play. Carroll continued to drop buckets pushing the gap to 10 points with a 21-11 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. The Blue Raiders found life to close out the quarter as a couple of free throws from Steele and a three-point play from Amber Dunn cut the lead to 16-21. Hailey Ison continued the Blue Raider surge with a layup of her own to get within three at 18-21.

In the second quarter, the Blue Raider momentum continued as Dunn converted another layup to cut the gap to within one at 20-21. That momentum was shot down moments later as the Saints answered with a three pointer from Danielle Wagner to make it 20-24. The Blue Raiders kept the pressure up and took their first lead of the game after a three pointer from Sydnie Hall and a layup from Lucy Patterson to make it 27-26 with six minutes left before the half. The Saints closed out the half on a 10-point run to lead at the break 46-37.

The Blue Raiders opened the third quarter with a three from Hall making it 40-48 before the Saints responded with a three of their own pushing the lead to an 11-point gap at 40-51. Back-to-back threes from the Saints furthered their lead to 45-60 opening their largest lead of the game at 15 points. The Saints kept the offense flowing in the final quarter of play to win

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team will return home to Biggers Sports Center to continue Mid-South Conference play on December 2 when they welcome in Shawnee State (Ohio). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
