Women's Basketball Open Season With Road Victory Over IU Southeast

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team got their 2021-22 season underway Wednesday evening with an 83-67 road victory over IU Southeast (Ind.). This is the second straight season the Blue Raiders have defeated the Grenadiers to open the season.

The Blue Raiders finished the contest shooting 42.3 percent to the Grenadiers 40.3 percent while hitting 17 of 23 free throws. Lindsey Wilson also outrebounded the hosts 50-36 and collected 12 steals in the match.

Bree Glover led the Blue Raiders on the night scoring 18 points and recording 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Maleigha Oldham also registered a double-double on the night with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the game. Amerah Steele put down 14 points in her first match as a Blue Raider while Sydnie Hall recorded 12 points.

The Blue Raiders did well in the opening quarter of play as Oldham took charge coming out of the gate to score eight of the team's 19 points in the first half. As the quarter progressed, both teams swapped the lead back and forth before the Blue Raiders were able to hang onto a 19-17 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The hosts grew more comfortable into the game as the second quarter progressed outscoring the Blue Raiders 17-8 at the mid-point of the second quarter. The Blue Raiders didn't let their poor scoring discourage them, as they rallied to put on a small run of 12 points just before the break to take a 39-36 halftime lead.

Out of the break, the Blue Raiders dominated the third quarter pushing their advantage to as much as 14 points at one point in the quarter. Glover had an impressive 12 points and four rebounds to help outscore the Grenadiers 18-13 for a 57-49 lead. The scoring train didn't slow down for the Blue Raiders in the final quarter of play as the visitors put up a game-high 21-points to finish the game and secure their first victory of the year.

The Blue Raiders will continue their season when they return to Biggers Sports Center for their home opener against Berea (Ky.) on November 9th. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
