Sluggish First Half Cost Women's Basketball Against No. 3 Thomas More

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The (RV) Lindsey Wilson women's basketball scored just six points over the first 15 minutes of the game falling 72-63 to No. 3 Thomas More (Ky.) on Saturday evening.

The Blue Raiders (5-4, 2-2 MSC) finished the night shooting 39.6 percent overall and 36 percent from beyond the arc. As a team, Lindsey Wilson recorded eight blocks.

Maleigha Oldham led the game in scoring with 21 points while shooting four for nine from the three-point line. Along with her scoring, Oldham collected five rebounds and recorded three steals. Amelia Hodges and Amerah Steele also finished the evening in double figures, scoring 14 points apiece.

Thomas More had all the momentum to start the first quarter, opening the game on a 5-0 run. Oldham stopped the run with a shot from beyond the arc, but the Saints finished the quarter outscoring Lindsey Wilson 11-2 to take a 16-6 lead going into the second quarter.

Momentum stuck with the Saints in the second quarter as they expanded their lead to as large as 21 while knocking down eight of their 14 shots to take a 35-16 lead going into halftime.

The Blue Raiders begin to trim the lead, outscoring Thomas More 27-18 in the third quarter. Oldham knocked down back-to-back three points to get the high scoring quarter underway for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders hit five three-pointers in the third quarter to trail by 10 going into the final quarter of play. Lindsey Wilson continued to fight, pulling as close as seven points in the final quarter. Despite the 27-point quarter, the first half troubles proved to be too much as the Blue Raiders fell to the Saints 72-63.

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team looks to bounce back as they travel to face No. 1 Campbellsville (Ky.) in the Battle of Highway 55 on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. CT.
