Archery earns runner-up finish at MSC Indoor Championships

MADISONVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson archery team finished runner-up at the 2021 Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships over the weekend.

The Blue Raiders scored 101 points during the event as four individuals and eight teams earned podium honors. Cumberlands (Ky.) won the title with 174 points while Union (Ky.) finished in third with 98 points.

Austin Taylor collected the lone gold during the competition for the Blue Raiders.

Taylor -- who was the top-seed in the 15-man tournament defeated Union's Daniel Carlton 147-144 in the quarterfinals, Cumberlands' Jase Boils 150-147 in the semifinals, and second-seeded Aaron Adams from Cumberlands 147-145 to claim the title.

T Sanchez earned the silver medal in the men's recurve. After beating second-seeded Jacob Valentini from Cumberlands in the semifinals, Sanchez -- the third seed -- fell in the finals to top-seeded AJ Clements from Pikeville (Ky.).

Olivia Harner and Hunter Current each earned bronze medals.

Harner won her quarterfinals match in the women's recurve before falling to eventual champion and top-seeded Miranda Lauria from Cumberlands in the semifinals. Harner -- the fourth-seed -- rebounded to win the third-place match 6-4 over second-seeded Ana McFarland from Pikeville to take the bronze.

Current used Harner's path in the men's barebow with a win in the quarterfinals before falling to Union's Johnathan Stanley -- the top seed. Current secured his podium with a 6-0 win over Pikeville's sixth-seeded Jacob Suffridge in the third-place match.

Four Blue Raider teams earned silver medals and four other teams picked up bronze medals.

The men's bowhunter, women's barebow, women's recurve, and the mixed compound teams each finished second. The men's barebow, women's bowhunter, women's compound, and mixed recurve teams finished third.

The Blue Raiders were scheduled to compete in the USA Archery Indoor National Championships in mid-February in Dayton, Ohio. Due to COVID-19, USA Archery officials canceled the championships for the safety of the student-athletes. In its place, scores will be used from the conference championships to determine the national placings.
