WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson archery team took home a second-place finish at the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championship with 131 total points. With the results, the Blue Raiders also managed a runner-up finish in the season-long chase for the conference crown.
For the championship, Lindsey Wilson managed three first, nine-second, four third and one fourth-place finishes.
After the event, Austin Taylor was named the MSC Men's Shooter of the Year. He added first-team all-conference honors as T Sanchez joined him on the list. Britney McCarthy, Olivia Harner and Taylor Bell were each selected to the second team for their performances this season.
Taylor Bell entered the competition in the men's bowhunter as the No. 4 seed and worked his way through the bracket to the title. He picked up four straight wins to win the discipline including a win over teammate Evan Mahanna in the finals.
Mahanna entered the bracket as the 11-seed and upset three higher-seeded opponents on his way to a second-place finish.
Austin Taylor won the men's compound discipline after entering the bracket as the No. 3-seed. He posted a 4-0 record on the day, taking down Lane Brant of Union (Ky.) in the finals who was the No. 1-seed.
Sanchez and Gabe Crenshaw finished in third and fourth place, respectively, during the men's recurve portion of the event. After both lost in the semifinals, they squared off in the bronze medal match where Sanchez picked up the win.
Casey Stickfort battled her way through the women's barebow bracket as the No. 6-seed to the championship. She lost Rebecca Jones of Kentucky Christian – the No. 5-seed -- in the finals to finish in second place.
Harner advanced to the finals of the women's recurve discipline. She entered the bracket as the No. 3-seed and picked up two wins before falling to No. 1-seed Miranda Laurie of Cumberlands in the finals.
Lindsey Wilson finished in second place at both the 3D and Indoor conference championship as Cumberlands took first place in all three events to claim the championship.
Next up for the Blue Raiders is the USA Archery Outdoor National Championship in Richmond, Virginia on May 20-23.
