Men's Tennis wins NAIA Opener, Beats Asbury 4-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 11-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis made quick work of Asbury (Ky.) today in the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships at Mobile Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (17-1) did not drop a set en route to a 4-0 win over the No. 22-seeded Eagles (10-2) in today's first round. Lindsey Wilson advances to face sixth-seeded Indiana Wesleyan at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday.

Lindsey Wilson won all three doubles matches -- the final two matches finishing simultaneously -- to take a 1-0 lead.

Aleksa Ciric and Tiago Almeida dropped just one game in their 6-1 win in the third-seeded match. Steven Espinoza and Nicolas Torrealba won at the top-seeded doubles match while Camilo Erazo and Jan Silhavy won in the second-seeded match. Both matches ended with 6-4 wins.

Ciric, Almeida, and Anatoliy Voloshyn each won their match in straight sets to send the Blue Raiders into the round of 16.

Ciric claimed the first singles win with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 over Rodrigo Cavero in the third-seeded match. Almeida followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Luiz Hartkopf in the fifth-seeded match to give the Blue Raiders the 3-0 lead.

Voloshyn secured the decisive point in the sixth-seeded match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Duarte Teixeira.

Lindsey Wilson was leading in two of the three remaining matches when play was halted once the Blue Raiders secured enough points for the team win.

The Blue Raiders face Indiana Wesleyan at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
