Men's tennis punches ticket to NAIA National Championship Semifinals; Defeat Middle Georgia 4-1

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team is headed to the NAIA National Championship Semifinals for just the second time in program history. The accomplishment comes on the heels of two straight upset wins over opponents seeded in the top-6.

The Blue Raiders took down No. 3 Middle Georgia in dominating fashion today during the quarterfinals, winning the match 4-1. Yesterday the Blue Raiders rolled in a 4-2 win over No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 1-0 lead after claiming the double point. Camilo Erazo and Jan Silhavy teamed up to defeat Naufal Kamarussaman and Angelo Tost on a 6-2 result. Tiago Almeida and Aleksa Ciric then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 result over Jordi Bou Sastre and Yuri Syromolotov.

Steven Espinoza and Nicolas Torrealba played in the No. 1 doubles match and were leading 5-3 when the contest was halted.

Silhavy (No. 48-ranked) pushed the LWC lead to 2-0 when he opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jordi Bou Sastre (No. 28). Maxence Kupfert took down Espinoza 6-4, 6-2 to cut the LWC lead in half.

Ciric (No. 39) pushed the Lindsey Wilson advantage back to two points when he defeated Angelo Tost (No. 35) 6-2, 7-5. Almeida provided the decisive point in the match with a come-from-behind win against Naufal Kamarussama. He dropped the first match 4-6 before fighting back to a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Erazo and Anatoliy Voloshyn also competed in singles play but their matches would go unfinished.

With the win, the Blue Raiders make their first appearance in the semifinals since the 2016 season. The Blue Raiders are set to square off with No. 2-seeded Keiser at 1 p.m. CT tomorrow.
