Women's Swimming defeats Campbellsville on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team defeated Campbellsville (Ky.) 97-20 at the Holloway Natatorium on Saturday during the Highway 55 Last Chance Invitational.

Maaike Broersma – a two-time NAIA Swimmer of the Month -- dominated in the pool, clocking four individual NAIA provisional standards and four first-place finishes. Maria Paula Escandon Lopez and Allie Rutherford also added provisional standards at the meet.

Broersma, Lopez, Rutherford and Carlene Taylor kicked things off with a first-place swim during the 200-yard medley relay. The grouping touched the wall in one minute and 53.71 seconds, five seconds faster than second place.

Broersma's first win came during the 50-yard freestyle when she touched the wall in 25.28 seconds. The sophomore then raced her way to a time of 2:08.26 during the 200-yard backstroke and a mark of 2:02.49 in the 200-yard freestyle. She later added another first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.37 seconds.

Rutherford clocked the fastest time in the 400-yard IM when she crashed into the wall with a mark of 5:03.74. She added her second first-place finish of the day during the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.70. Rutherford picked up her NAIA national standard in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:16.74.

Lopez claimed her first individual victory as a Blue Raiders during the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.80. She then clocked a provisional standard in the 200-yard breaststroke when she touched the wall in 2:33.85.

Natascha Evrinoff, Savannah Schoeman, Taylor and Broersma managed a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay after a time of 3:47.94 seconds. The pairing of Schoeman, Rutherford, Taylor and Broersma then added a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking a time of 1:44.28.

Jaye Farthing managed a first-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:52.39. Taylor managed a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 56.03 seconds. Avery Herring picked up a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:24.71.

Broersma, Lopez, Evreinoff and Taylor picked up the Blue Raiders final win of the evening in the 400-yard medley relay. The pairing touched the wall in 4:08.88.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the pool for the Mid-South Conference Championship on Feb. 3-5 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
