Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team notches their first conference win of the season against visiting (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) 66-51 on Thursday evening at Biggers Sports Center.
Lucy Patterson led all scorers with 17 points and 15 rebounds, 6 of which were offensive, giving her a double-double. Patterson has paced the Blue Raiders in scoring in the last four contests. Maleigha Oldham and Jordyn Stephens turned in impressive performances, with both scoring in the double digits. Bethel continued their shaky shooting in the past four games only shooting 16.7% on 4-for-24 from deep.
In what was a fairly even ball game in the opening quarter, both teams looked to establish their shooting stroke in the first quarter with back and forth action. Lindsey Wilson's lead would swell to eight points but the Wildcats fought back, cutting into that lead and pinning the game at 18-15 LWC after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, Bethel looked to attack more in the paint and get to the foul line. This tactic would work, giving them nine chances at the stripe and sinking eight of them for a 88.9% in the quarter. The Blue Raiders relied more on setting up offense for open jump shooters, Sydnie Hall and Oldham found themselves in early foul trouble with 3 for Hall and 2 for Oldham. Lindsey Wilson kept pace with the Wildcats shooting 5-for-5 from the line. The Blue Raiders would see themselves go into the break up 32-29.
Lindsey Wilson started to pull away in the second half after forcing a few Wildcat turnovers and using Patterson's scoring, who would pull down her tenth rebound in the quarter to secure the double-double. Perimeter pressure from Deyja Evans led to fast-break points for LWC. Oldham and Stephens both hit big three-point shots in the quarter to increase the Lindsey lead to 50-40 at the end of the quarter.
The Blue Raiders opened up the fourth going on a 7-0 run, forcing a Wildcat timeout at the 7:09 mark. LWC extended their run to the tune of 12-5 with just over three minutes left in the contest. Lindsey Wilson would extend their lead to 15, where the game would end at that, 66-51 giving them the much needed win.
The Blue Raiders return to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center when they take on visiting Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at 1 p.m. CT.
