Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell just short of (RV) Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 62-55 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.
Dayja Evans paced the offensive effort with a career-high 16 points shooting an impressive 67% from deep, including the clutch three with 5.5 second in the fourth to force the game into overtime. Lucy Patterson recorded her second straight double-double, producing 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blue Raiders found themselves out in front early, shooting 62.5% from deep and playing stout defense limiting the Lady Lions to just 23.1% from the field. A Lindsey Wilson run in the late first showed LWC leading 19-9 after the opening ten minutes.
Lindsey Wilson cooled off in the second quarter, but their defense was still giving Freed-Hardeman problems, forcing them to shoot 31.3% from the field in the second and 27.5% in the contest. Both squads scored 13 in the quarter, pinning the game at 32-22 with Lindsey Wilson going into the break with a ten point lead.
The Blue Raiders came out of the half to the tune of a 8-2 run at the 7:07 mark in the third, using patient offense to get to the paint instead of settling for contested jump shots. Freed-Hardeman started to claw back, ending the quarter with a 11-4 run, leaving the game at 44-35.
Lady Lion's Rachel Satterly started to take over the game in the fourth quarter, slashing to the basket and getting to the foul line. FHU cut the lead down to five points after Blue Raider turnovers. Madisyn Baugher hit a three from the corner as the shot-clock expired to tie the game at 48 all. Freed-Hardeman took the lead for the first time since the first quarter after two Satterly free throws. Jordyn Stephens grabbed the offensive rebound and swung it to Evans, who drilled the three pointer with 5.5 seconds remaining, and sent the contest to overtime.
The overtime period started out with even back and forth action, then Lady Lions scored seven unanswered points to extend the lead in OT and ultimately put the game out of reach for the Blue Raiders.
The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team will be back in action against No. 18 Georgetown (Ky.) on Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
