Women's Basketball Wins Thriller against Cumberlands

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team trailed by two points with three minutes to play against Cumberlands (Ky.) but outscored the Patriots 9-4 over the waning minutes of the game to pull out a 63-60 win at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders opened the final quarter with a 44-40 lead but the Patriots leveled the score at 54 with four minutes to play before taking a lead a few minutes later. Lindsey Wilson shot just 38.8 percent from the floor in the game while Cumberlands managed a 44.7 percent mark. LWC was far more effective at the charity stripe, knocking down 19-of-22 attempts while UC hit just 12-of-17.

Hailey Ison once again led the LWC offensive effort with 20 points while Maleigha Oldham added 19 of her own. Amelia Hodges was the final Blue Raider in double figures with 11 points. Bree Glover led LWC with six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Lindsey Wilson struggled to find their rhythm in the first quarter, scoring just two points across the first six minutes of play to a 7-2 Cumberlands lead. LWC closed the quarter on a 9-3 run to take a one-point advantage after 10 minutes.

The Blue Raiders came out firing in the second frame pushing the pace, taking a 12-point lead – their largest of the game – at 26-14 with just over three minutes to play in the half. The Patriots battled back, cutting the LWC lead in half at 29-23 at the break.

Cumberlands quickly leveled the score in the third quarter, tying the game at 33 just three minutes in. Following two more tie scores, Lindsey Wilson regained the lead with 1:33 to play thanks to three straight three-pointers. Oldham knocked down the first two as Jordyn Stephens hit the final to give LWC a 44-38 lead. The Patriots hit a jumper at the end of the quarter to pull within four.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the court on Thursday when they welcome Campbellsville (Ky.) to Biggers Sports Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
