Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team dropped their final road game of the season, 70-75 in a tight contest with (RV) Cumberlands (Ky.) Saturday afternoon.
Hailey Ison led the Blue Raiders (13-12, 8-9 MSC) in scoring with 18 points in the game while Jordyn Stephens led the team in rebounds collecting six in the match. As a team, Lindsey Wilson shot 43.8 percent overall going 21 of 48 from the field and 24 of 27 from the line for 88.9 percent.
The Blue Raiders found themselves down early as the hosts built up a 10-point advantage through the first ten minutes at 22-12. The Patriots carried that scoring momentum into the second period as they continued to pile on the buckets making it a 17-point lead at 16-33 with 6:20 remaining in before the half. Back-to-back three pointers from Sydnie Hall gave the Blue Raiders a boost as they cut the deficit to nine with a halftime score of 30-39.
The Blue Raiders battled in the third quarter, doing their best to make it a ball game but the Patriots had an answer for everything the visitors threw at them as they maintained a slender advantage throughout the third quarter.
The determination to get things level finally paid off for the Blue Raiders early in the fourth quarter as a bucket from Maleigha Oldham tied things at 58 with 8:05 remaining in the game. The Patriots were determined not to let this one get away however as they responded with a 6-0 run to take a 62-58 lead over Lindsey Wilson.
In the final five minutes of play, the Patriots had extended their lead back to nine points. Amelia Hodges put away a layup and two free throws in the final seconds of the game, but it was too late as the comeback from the Blue Raiders fell just short as they lost 70-75 on the afternoon.
The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team will return home on Monday to take on Cumberland (Tenn.) to kick off a three-game homestand to close out the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT in Biggers Sports Center.
