Women's Basketball Drops Close Contest with Cumberland

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to Cumberland (Tenn.) 60-58 on Monday night at Biggers Sports Center in Mid-South Conference action.

The contest was a battle, featuring 14 lead changes and 11 ties but the Blue Raiders couldn't pull through late. The loss snapped a 14-game winning streak against the Phoenix. Turnovers killed the Lindsey Wilson effort after committing 11, resulting in 12 easy points for Cumberland.

Bree Glover managed her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Sydnie Hall scored 15 points while Hailey Ison chipped in with 12 of her own.

Lindsey Wilson shot an even 40 percent from the floor while limiting Cumberland to a 37.7 mark. The Phoenix's Tyra Johnson proved to be too much for the LWC defense with 24 points and Lindsey Freeman added 14 of her own.

The first half was a close for all 20 minutes as both teams couldn't seem to pull away. Cumberland managed the largest lead of the first half at six points, 9-3, just three minutes into the first quarter. It was Lindsey Wilson that led into the halftime locker room, taking a 29-28 advantage into the break.

Throughout the first 20 minutes, Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland exchanged the lead nine times while the pair were tied five times.

The Blue Raiders shot 36.7 percent from the floor while the Phoenix managed a mark of 31.0 percent. Glover dominated the glass, grabbing seven boards while Sydnie Hall led the Blue Raiders with 12 points.

Lindsey Wilson let Cumberland take the lead after the third quarter at 45-42. The Blue Raiders were able to level the score in the early stages of the fourth quarter but it was as close as they would get to regain a lead.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the court on Thursday when they host Tennessee Southern at Biggers Sports Center. Tipoff is set for 6 pm CT.
