Shaky Start Plagues Women's Basketball Against UT Southern

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team struggled in the opening seven minutes of play against UT Southern, falling into a 17-0 hole. The deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Blue Raiders fell 68-51 at Biggers Sports Center.

Despite shooting just 18 percent in the first half Lindsey Wilson (13-13, 8-10 MSC) finished with a mark of 38.3 percent from the floor. The Firehawks (14-12, 9-11 MSC) hit 41.4 percent of their shots including a 40 percent mark from beyond the arc. Turnovers plagued LWC early, finishing with six in the first quarter alone and 11 for the game. The Lindsey Wilson miscues lead to 15 points for UT Southern.

Three Blue Raiders finished in double figures as Bree Glover lead the team with 12 points adding a game-high 13 boards for her second straight double-double. Amelia Hodges and Sydnie Hall finished with 10 points.

Lindsey Wilson opened the contest 0-of-8 from the floor to fall behind 17-0 across the first seven minutes of action. Amelia Hodges scored the Blue Raiders first points of the game with three minutes left in the quarter at the charity stripe before knocking down a jumper on the following possession. Lindsey Wilson finished the quarter trailing 20-6.

The Blue Raiders found a rhythm in the second, knocking down five of 12 attempts including their first three of the game. UT Southern kept their pace, taking a 34-21 lead into the halftime locker room.

Lindsey Wilson trimmed the UT Southern lead to as few as six points over the opening five minutes of the second half but it was as close as they came to gaining a lead. The Firehawks took their largest lead of the night at 21 points with just under five minutes to play.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the court on Saturday when they host Life (Ga.) for senior night and their final home regular-season contest.
