Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis closed out the Grizzly Invitational on Sunday with a 4-0 win over Bluefield State (W.Va.) at the Georgia Gwinnett Tennis Facility.
The No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders (3-3) captured the doubles point and all three singles matches that finished to close out weekend play.
Tiago Almeida and Joppe van Malderen opened the day with a 6-1 win over Teddy Razafindatsima and Juan de Freitas in the second-seeded doubles match. In the top-seeded match, Steven Espinoza and Aleksa Ciric paired to beat Frederik Bau-Madsen and Tom Schmieta 7-5 to claim the doubles point -- the first point of the team match.
Ciric, van Malderen, and Jan Silhavy all won their singles match to give the Blue Raiders the 4-0 sweep. The remainder of the matches were stopped after the team match was clinched.
Van Malderen doubled the Lindsey Wilson lead in the second-seeded singles match en route to dropping just one game. He defeated Razafindatsima 6-0, 6-1 for the 2-0 lead.
Ciric -- ranked 33rd in the NAIA in singles -- overcame a set deficit to beat Schmieta at three singles 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 for the 3-0 lead.
Silhavy -- ranked 13th in the NAIA -- followed Ciric's lead with a three-set win to clinch the match. Silhavy blanked Bau-Madsen in a third-set tiebreak to win 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (0) in the top-seeded singles match.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at noon CT on Monday, March 7, as the Blue Raiders play No. 17-ranked William Woods (Mo.) in Williamsburg, Ky.
