Women's Basketball goes cold in fourth quarter, falls to Campbellsville 57-48

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A 6-0 Campbellsville (Ky.) run early in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Lindsey Wilson women's basketball fell to the No. 4-ranked Tigers 57-48 today at Biggers Sports Center.

The game resided inside a 10-point window through three quarters -- Lindsey Wilson's largest lead was six points while Campbellsville lead by four points multiple times -- producing five ties and 12 lead changes.

Entering the final quarter and trailing 41-37, Lindsey Wilson looked to have seized the momentum as Amelia Hodges created a turnover and drained a 3-pointer with 9:28 left trimming the deficit to one point (41-40).

Unfortunately for the Blue Raiders, that sequence proved to be the highlight of the final frame.

Over the next five-game minutes, Lindsey Wilson went 0-for-7 from the field and 0-for-2 from the free-throw line. While the Blue Raiders struggled offensively, Campbellsville scored six straight to take a 47-40 lead -- its largest at the point -- with 5:38 remaining in regulation.

Much like the rest of the game, the two teams exchanged baskets -- and often free throws -- down the stretch.

Twice, in the waning minutes, Lindsey Wilson had the ball trailing by five points. But both times and unkind rim failed to produce the key shots en route to the loss.

During the disastrous final quarter, Lindsey Wilson shot 2-for-14 from the field. The Blue Raiders stayed within striking distance thanks to hitting six-of-eight free throws.

For the game, Lindsey Wilson shots just 26.7 percent (16-of-60) from the floor. Campbellsville faired marginally better, connecting on 33.3 percent (14-of-42).

Outside of the frigid finish, the Blue Raiders pushed the top-five team to the brink. The Tigers ultimately iced the game at the free-throw line. Campbellsville made 23-of-24 freebies compared to Lindsey Wilson's 10-of-14.

Hailey Ison finished with a team-high 12 points while Hodges added 11. Campbellsville's Courtney Pritchard led all scorers with 16 points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, February 5, as the Blue Raiders host Georgetown (Ky.) at Biggers Sports Center.
