MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team opened their 2022 spring schedule with competition at the Showdown at Legends event. The Blue Raiders scored a 951 (327-317-307) during the three rounds of play to finish in third place.
Malene Clausen posted a third-place finish marking her fourth top-5 finish of the season. She posted a 225 (78-74-73) to finish the event nine strokes off the leader In Minji Kang who posted an even-par 216.
The tournament was held at Legends Resort, the Parkland course a par-72, 5,905-yard design.
Clausen played the par fours to a second-best mark in the field at a 4.23 scoring average and was the third-best on par three's at even-par. She racked up 34 pars and seven birdies for the event which were the third and second most, respectively.
Claire McLaughlin and Katie Biddlecombe finished in a tie for 15th place with 240 strokes. McLaughlin vaulted herself up the leaderboard six spots over the final round with her lowest score of the event at 75 strokes. She produced an 84-81 across the first two rounds. Biddlecombe fired a 77-85-78 to finish in a tie with her teammate.
Similarly, Hannah Sumner and Zofia Wojcik finished in a tie for 25th place. The pair scored a 252 as Sumner went 92-79-81 and Wojcik an 88-83-81 as both golfers move up the leaderboard two spots during the final round.
Paige Gray (33rd), Megan Mann (34th), and Lauren Holeman (37th) competed at the event as individuals finishing one stroke apart. Gray shot a 262 (90-90-82) as Mann fired a 263 (85-87-91) and Holeman went 264 (92-86-86).
William Carey (Miss.) won the event with a 924 (311-315-298) as Mid-South Conference member Cumberland (Tenn.) took second with a 949 (338-307-304) just two strokes ahead of the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the course on March 13-14 when they compete at the Bobby Nichols Invitational at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tennessee.
