Women's Basketball falls to Carroll in NAIA National Tournament to end season

Box Score

NEW ORLEANS -- A disastrous third quarter was too much for the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team to overcome this afternoon in a 69-50 loss to No. 11-ranked Carroll (Mont.) in the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Opening Round at Avron D. Fogelman Arena.

The third-seeded Saints (26-7) outscored Lindsey Wilson 22-9 in the third quarter hitting 4-of-6 3-pointers over the 10 minutes while Lindsey Wilson shot just 17 percent (2-of-12) from the field in the quarter.

The Blue Raiders (16-16) offensive woes continued into the final quarter as Carroll extended its lead to as many as 22 points before closing out the win to advance to tomorrow's second-round game.

Lindsey Wilson ended the game shooting 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the field. The Saints countered by blistering the nets making half of their 56 shots, including shooting 9-of-18 from deep.

The second half was a stark contrast to the opening 20 minutes.

After trailing 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Raiders used the first half of the second quarter to outscore the Saints 15-6 to grab their largest lead of the half at 26-21.

Lindsey Wilson used its defense to propel the run -- forcing 11 first-half turnovers and converting those miscues into 11 points.

Following a Carroll timeout, the Saints made three 3-pointers to close out the half on a 9-2 run to take a 30-28 lead into the locker room.

Maleigha Oldham scored a team-high 13 points for the Blue Raiders while Hailey Ison added 12 points. Carroll's Danielle Wagner scored a game-high 22 points while hitting 6-of-9 3-pointers.
