Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team defeated No. 16 William Woods (Mo.) 4-1 Thursday afternoon in their spring home opener.
Lindsey Wilson won the doubles point on the day as Aleksa Ciric and Steven Espinoza defeated No. 13 Vitek Subert and Nathan Cooke 6-2 for the first win of the afternoon. Tiago Almeida and Joppe van Malderen dropped the second game 6-3 to Patrick Shelepov and Ben Grumley but Jan Silhavy and Nicolas Torrealba saved the day for the Blue Raiders as they secured the point with a 6-4 win over Robert Schorr and Marco Salamanca.
In the singles, No. 13-ranked Silhavy picked up the Blue Raiders' first win with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over No. 43-ranked Grumley in the No. 1 singles match. Lindsey Wilson pushed their advantage to 2-0 when van Malderen took down Subert on a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 result.
No. 33-ranked Ciric delivered the third win on the day after a 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 win over No. 40-ranked Shelepov in the No. 2 singles match while Torrealba got the final win of the afternoon over Cooke with a 7-5, 6-2 result.
The No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches went unfinished between Almeida and Schorr, 6-4, 4-5, and Voloshyn and Salamanca, 6-2, 4-2.
Lindsey Wilson will open conference action on the road this weekend as they take on Shawnee State (Ohio) at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
