Men's Tennis Sweeps Phoenix; Extends Win Streak To Eight

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis continued its winning streak to a season-high eight straight with a 7-0 sweep over No. 16-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) today at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders (10-3, 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference) captured the doubles point and all six singles matches to remain unbeaten in conference play this season.

Aleksa Ciric and Jan Silhavy opened the day with their sixth straight win as a doubles team in a 6-1 win over Hughes N'Goma and Sach Colomban in the second-seeded match.

Lindsey Wilson claimed the first point of the day by winning the top-seeded doubles match. Nicolas Torrealba and Steven Espinoza notched the 6-2 win over Daniel Wessels and German Suarez.

After securing the point, the Blue Raiders concluded doubles play with a 6-1 win as Joppe van Malderen and Tiago Almeida defeated Dan Slapnik Trost and Adrijan Hrzic.

In singles, No. 18-ranked Silhavy kept things going for the Blue Raiders after defeating Trost 6-3, 6-3 in the third-seeded match.

No. 40-ranked Ciric got the second singles win on the day after defeating Daniel Wessels 7-5, 6-4 in the top-seeded singles match.

van Malderen stretched the lead to 4-0 and after a tough battle against Hrzic defeating him 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in the second-ranked match.

No. 33-ranked Almeida put the match away after defeating Colomban 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.

Torrealba faced a tough test but went on to defeat N'Goma 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) while Anatoliy Voloshyn defeated Fernando Flores 6-4, 6-4 to secure the straight sweep.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, March 26, as the Blue Raiders host (RV) Marian (Ind.) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
