Men's Tennis shuts down Marian 7-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis shut out visiting Marian (Ind.) 7-0 today at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The win extends the Blue Raiders' winning streak to a season-high nine games. Lindsey Wilson (11-3) has dropped just one set over the last four matches.

The Blue Raiders secured the doubles point on the strength of their top-two teams.

Nicolas Torrealba and Steven Espinoza cruised to a 6-1 win over Mark Griffin and Jacob Wittenbaum in the top-seeded match. Jan Silhavy and Aleksa Ciric followed with a 6-2 win over Jarend Thomas and Greg Fulling in the second-seeded match to take the doubles point.

Ciric, Torrealba, and Joppe van Malderen all won in straight sets in their singles matches to give Lindsey Wilson four team points and the match win.

Ciric defeated Griffin 6-3, 6-3 in the top-seeded match to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead. Ciric is 11-0 this season, including 4-0 playing as the Blue Raiders' top seed.

Van Malderen won his fourth straight singles match on court three with a 6-0, 6-1 over Dmitrii Voshchenkov for the 3-0 Lindsey Wilson lead. Torrealba won for the eighth straight time with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Jones McNamar in the fourth-seeded match to give the Blue Raiders the four points they needed for the team win.

Silhavy went the distance on court two, Tiago Almeida won in straight sets and Anatoliy Voloshyn won in a super-set tiebreaker to complete the sweep.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 27, as the Blue Raiders host Tennessee Southern at Baughman Tennis Complex.
