Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis closed out the regular season today with a 5-2 win over host Campbellsville (Ky.) at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Blue Raiders (17-3, 10-0 in the Mid-South Conference) capture the MSC regular-season title. The championship is the 17th in the program's history. Lindsey Wilson earns the top seed in next week's MSC Tournament.
The Blue Raiders grabbed the 1-0 team lead following winning two of the three doubles matches to open the day.
Aleksa Ciric and Jan Silhavy claimed the first win with a 6-3 victory over Matus Sevcik and Jan Stolin in the second-seeded match. Joppe van Malderen and Tiago Almeida secured the doubles point following a 6-2 win over Nicolas Andrade and Sebastian Toledo in the third-seeded match.
Campbellsville (11-11, 5-4) won the first singles match on court three to even the team match at 1-1. Satoshi Yamada won in straight sets over van Malderen to even the match.
Lindsey Wilson won the next three singles matches to claim the team win.
Ciric dropped the first set against Hernan Toledo in the second-seeded match but battled back to take the next two sets to pull out the 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.
Silhavy extended the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-1 with a win on court one. He bested Stolin 7-6 (8), 6-2 to improve to 15-4 on the season, including winning a team-best 11th straight match.
Nicolas Torrealba secured the team win in the fourth-seeded match. He beat Andrade 6-1, 6-2 for his 13th win of the season in singles play.
Almeida picked up a straight-set win to close out the day on court five with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Alex Lago.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 9:30 a.m. CT on Friday, April 22, in the MSC Tournament quarterfinals at the Buchanon Park Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders face the winner of the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in the quarterfinals -- which will be played on Thursday.
