Archery Finishes Third at MSC Outdoor Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson archery team finished in third place at the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders racked up 11 podium finishes at the event as one individual, one mixed doubles team and one team won championships.

Individually three Blue Raiders hit the podium. Jacob Cook took the top spot during the men's barebow. In the finals, he downed Thomas Olson of Pikeville 6-4 (22-26, 22-10, 21-27, 23-19, 21-20).

T Sanchez and Austin Taylor cracked the podium in the men's recurve and compound, respectively. Sanchez lost in a shoot-off 6-5 (23-25, 28-27, 24-24, 22-26, 27-23) to Aric Clements of Pikeville as Taylor fell to Cole Zeug 147-142 (28-29, 29-29, 30-30, 29-30, 29-26)

Ryli Valliere and Sanchez claimed first place in the mixed recurve, defeating Pikeville's Bella Barrett and Aric Clements 6-2 (35-33, 33-35, 35-30, 33-32).

Britney McCarthy and Cook claimed third place in the mixed barebow, rolling to a 6-0 win over Georgetown's Felicia Rapp and Chris Thacker. The duo won 25-23, 26-21, and 23-20.

The pairings of Natalie Brockman and Taylor (mixed compound) and Anna Krampe and Wyatt Burtts (mixed bowhunter) finished in fourth place in their disciplines.

Christian Blair, Gabe Crenshaw, and Sanchez picked up the Blue Raiders' second first-place finish, doing so during the men's team recurve. The trio won 6-2 (46-41, 42-43, 52-43, 54-53) over Cumberlands.

In women's recurve, Layla Blevins, Casie Metcalf, and Valliere finished in second place after a close 5-3 loss in the finals against a Cumberlands squad. The pairing lost 47-47, 36-50, 48-44, and 36-46.

Casey Stickfort, Sarah McCarthy, and Britney McCarthy just missed out on a first-place finish in the women's barebow. The trio lost to Cumberlands 5-4 (46-35, 43-36, 42-20, 36-35) to finish in second.

Evan Mahanna, Taylor Bell, and Burtts claimed second place during men's bowhunter, falling to Union 225 to 210 (49-55, 55-59, 53-54, 53-57).

Dylan Hamilton, Nathaniel Bush, and Cook fell in the semifinals of the men's barebow to Pikeville and would finish in third place by default in the final round.

During women's compound action, Olivia Poston, Abigail Kaysinger, and Brockman took third place after narrowly defeating Union after tying 223-223. The Blue Raiders won after four ends scoring 56-55, 56-57, 55-55, 56-56 against their counterparts.

Thirteen Blue Raiders were named Academic All-Conference (read here) as Courtney Blevens and Evan Mahanna were named LWC MSC Champions of Character (read here).

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on May 19-22 when they compete at the USA Archery Outdoor National Championship in Chula Vista, California.
