Men's Tennis sweeps Campbellsville in MSC Tournament semifinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis defeated fifth-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) 4-0 today in the Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals at the Warren County Tennis and Sports Facility.

The Blue Raiders (19-3) advance to tomorrow's championship match against the winner of second-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) and third-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.). Sunday's match is slated for 3 p.m. CT.

Lindsey Wilson won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead over the Tigers (13-11).

Aleksa Ciric and Jan Silhavy -- ranked 21st in the NAIA in doubles -- picked up the first win of the day with a decisive 6-1 win over Nicolas Andrade and Sebastian Toledo in the second-seeded match. The Blue Raider pair extend their winning streak to 12 straight while improving to 14-1 overall this season.

Campbellsville captured the top-seeded doubles match forcing a winner-take-all scenario on court three. Nicolas Torrealba and Steven Espinoza fell to Hernan Toledo and Satoshi Yamada 6-2 to even doubles play.

With the doubles point on the line, Tiago Almeida and Joppe van Malderen provided the win to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 advantage.

Almeida and van Malderen beat Jan Stolin and Matus Sevcik 6-3 in the third-seeded match to improve to 14-2 this season as a doubles team.

Leading 1-0, the Blue Raiders needed three singles wins to advance to the championship match. They got it from their top three seeds.

Ciric started the streak with a 6-1, 6-2 over Yamada in the top-seeded match for a 2-0 lead. Ciric improves to 18-1 this season, including 10-1 as Lindsey Wilson's top seed.

Silhavy extended the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win on court two. He bested Hernan Toledo 6-2, 6-4 to improve to 16-4 this season.

Van Malderen closed out the win on court three after beating Stolin 7-6 (3), 6-3.

The remainder of the matches were halted once Lindsey Wilson reached the four points necessary for the team win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday in the MSC Tournament finals at the Warren County Tennis and Sports Facility.
