Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the fourth straight season and the 17th time in program history the Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team captured the Mid-South Conference Tournament title. The top-seeded Blue Raiders rolled over second-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) 4-1 in this afternoon's tournament finals.
The result gives the Blue Raiders a clean sweep on the season after winning the MSC regular-season title with a perfect 10-0 record.
Lindsey Wilson has claimed the tournament title every year since 2003 except in 2017 when they finished as runner-up and in 2011 and 2020 when there was no conference tournament.
The Blue Raiders narrowly claimed the doubles point after winning on courts two and three.
No. 21-ranked Jan Silhavy and Aleksa Ciric opened play with a 6-4 win over No. 23 Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub. Cumberlands put some pressure on LWC when Martin Muller and Hung-Ju Wu defeated Nicolas Torrealba and Steven Espinoza 6-3 in the top-seeded doubles match.
Tiago Almeida and Joppe van Malderen secured the first point of the match with a tight 7-5 win against Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner.
The Blue Raiders quickly raced to three singles wins, with Cumberlands picking up their only points of the match at No. 6 singles, to win 4-1. Two singles matches went unfinished with Lindsey Wilson leading in both.
No. 26 Silhavy pushed the LWC advantage to 2-0 when he downed No. 29 Barbier 6-4, 6-3. In the top-seeded match, No. 34 Ciric extended the Lindsey Wilson lead further with a 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 49 Montagner.
Wu defeated Anatoliy Voloshyn 6-1, 6-4 to cut the Blue Raiders' lead to 3-1.
Torrealba sealed the tournament championship for Lindsey Wilson with his win over Muller 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth-seeded singles match.
Malderen and Christian Nodado sat at a score of 6-4, 3-6 as Almeida and Montull sat at 6-2, 1-6, 4-1 with both the third and fifth-seeded matches going unfinished.
For the tournament, the Blue Raiders produced a perfect 3-0 record with clean 4-0 sweeps over Thomas More (Ky.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) in the quarterfinal and semifinals, respectively. Lindsey Wilson conceded just one point to a team, coming against the Patriots in the finals of their 4-1 win.
With the win, the Blue Raiders claim the MSC's automatic qualifying bid into the NAIA National Championship. The NAIA will release the bracket and seeding for the National Championship on Wednesday, May 4 with the event scheduled for May 17-21 in Mobile, Alabama.
