Box Score COLUMBIA Ky. - No. 4 ranked Lindsey Wilson football opens its season with a 57-6 rout of St. Andrews (N.C.) at Parnell Family Stadium. The Phil Kleckler era started off in dominant fashion, limiting the Knights (0-1) to 119 yards of total offense.
The Blue Raiders scored 57 straight points to the tune of 435 yards of total offense. The Lindsey Wilson defense also had their way allowing just one score late in the 4th quarter with the help of two pass interference calls.
Lindsey Wilson started out firing on all cylinders, scoring two minutes into the game with a screen pass from Will McDonald to Logan Collier for a 27 yard touchdown, capping off a 4 play 60 yard drive. Darius Hylick rushed it in for the 2-PT conversion.
The Blue Raiders added another score on their next drive when Reid Brickey subbed in at quarterback and took a draw play in for the five yard rushing touchdown. Ethan Cash was responsible for the next touchdown, throwing a jump ball fade to Devin Hobbs for the 15 yard score to increase the Blue Raider lead to 22-0.
McDonald then threw a 32 yard strike to Noel Patterson for the fourth Lindsey Wilson touchdown of the quarter. This polished off the 29 unanswered points by the Blue Raiders during the opening quarter.
Lindsey WIlson opened the second quarter with great starting field position at the SAU 37 yard line. Lindsey Wilson used just six plays before finding the endzone. The drive was capped off by Josh Watch on an in-breaking route for the 12 yard score from McDonald.
On the ensuing SAU possession, the Blue Raider defense forced a turnover on downs. Jbias Dawson started the Lindsey Wilson drive with a four yard run, then took the next handoff 55 yards untouched to the endzone.
After the Blue Raiders forced a three-and-out, McDonald threw his fourth touchdown of the day to Elvin Fofanah, a 19 yard touchdown, putting the game at 50-0.
Three plays later, St. Andrews' Andrew Fowler had his pass intercepted by Cordarien Trice, and Trice returned it 40 yards for a Lindsey Wilson touchdown. The interception brought the game 57-0 into halftime.
Lindsey Wilson's offensive production slowed down due to the game's second half being shortened to eight minute quarters for player safety.
There was no action until the mid fourth quarter, when St. Andrews' Dennis Leggett rushed for two yards for a constellation prize of six points, as the Knights failed the 2-Point Conversion.
McDonald finished the game 8-for-11 passing with 185 yards and four touchdowns. Dawson had five carries for 97 yards and a touchdown while Collier led all receivers with two catches for 81 yards and one touchdown. Hylick and Blake Russell led the defensive effort with seven total tackles. Ben Kalu and Trice both finished the game with one interception each.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT as the Blue Raiders go on the road to face Union College.
