Football Sets Program Records as Highway 55 Trophy Stays in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team retained the Highway 55 trophy for the seventh straight season on Homecoming weekend with a 21-12 win over Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday night at Parnell Family Stadium.

Lindsey Wilson (4-0, 2-0 MSC) improves to 9-4 all-time against Campbellsville (2-2, 0-2 MSC) as the Blue Raiders are winners of nine of the last 10 meetings.

Lindsey Wilson was consistently in the Campbellsville backfield totaling nine sacks, which set a new program record for sacks in a game, resulting in a loss of 58 yards. The Blue Raiders set another program record holding the Tigers to negative 27 rushing yards for the contest. The mark bests last weekend's mark of negative 21 rushing yards against Cumberlands (Ky.).

Luke Bowman and David Hylick both managed two sacks each. Bowman reached 300 tackles in his career in this contest, finishing the game with seven tackles and now sits just 21 tackles away from the most all-time in program history.

Will McDonald led the passing attack for the Blue Raiders going 13-for-29 with 184 yards and one touchdown. McDonald passed the millennium mark for career passing yards moving into fifth place on the all-time list.

Both teams traded punts in the first quarter before DeAgo Brumfield intercepted a Will McDonald pass, taking it 50 yards for the pick-six. The Blue Raiders answered right back on the ensuing kickoff with Logan Collier finding an opening in the coverage unit, returning it 92 yards to the endzone.

McDonalds pass was intercepted again by the Tigers who took over deep in Blue Raider territory. Lindsey Wilson's defense stood tall and held Campbellsville to a field goal making the score 9-7. The Blue Raiders couldn't gain momentum on the next two drives as both made their way into Tiger territory but stalled resulting in two turnover-on-downs.

Lindsey Wilson's next possession late in the second quarter saw Will McDonald finding Logan Collier on a post route moving the Blue Raiders deep into Tiger territory. Ian Sauter's 49 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Ha'keem Dillard.

Campbellsville opened up the ensuing drive with a 57-yard bomb by Joshua Meglis complete to Andre Siler, with the drive being capped off by a Campbellsville field goal. The score was the last for the Tigers as the lead grew to 12-7.

Following a defensive battle in the third quarter, Lindsey Wilson finally found the endzone early in the fourth. After a big catch off a double move from Noel Patterson for a 37 yard reception. McDonald then threw a 12 yard strike to Manny Scott for the Blue Raiders touchdown. The drive went five plays for 82 yards.

Lindsey Wilson's defense forced a punt to Noel Patterson who then fumbled it after returning it 34 yards. Patterson then quickly redeemed himself on the next Tiger punt, taking it 79 yards for the score making it 21-12.

That score would hold as the Blue Raiders got into victory formation and kneeled the ball, securing the Highway 55 Trophy.

Michael Leslie and Cashawn Beasley set the tone on defense, registering 11 and nine tackles respectively, with Beasley also forcing a fumble in this contest. Darius Hylick finished the game with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Lindsey Wilson hits the road for a battle against Thomas More (Ky.) next week on Saturday, Oct 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
