Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to Cumberland (Tenn.), 77-63, on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
The difference in this game came in the post as Cumberland dominated in points in the paint (46-18) and rebounds (35-20).
Three Blue Raiders scored in double figures including Lucy Patterson (15), Maleigha Oldham (13), and Jordyn Stephens (10).
The first quarter was even for the most part as the Pheonix went 7-of-14 from the floor while the Blue Raiders went 6-of-14 from the floor. Cumberland led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Patterson earned the first five points for the Blue Raiders early in the second quarter, but the Pheonix slowly extended their lead throughout the rest of the second quarter. Cumberland outscored Lindsey Wilson 12-5 in the final 6:14 to take a 37-29 lead at the break.
Both teams went on short runs to start the second half, but a 6-0 Cumberland run would give the Pheonix a 49-36 lead with 2:22 left in the third quarter. Two Lindsey Wilson free-throws and a jumper by Stephens cut the deficit to single digits, but back-to-back layups in the final 36 seconds put the Pheonix back up by 13, 53-40, heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter saw the Pheonix stretch the lead out to as many as 16 points. The Blue Raiders looked to fight back late as Irye Gomez knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit to 70-59 with 2:23 left in the game.
Cumberland responded with a layup and five free-throws in the final two minutes to seal the 77-63 victory for the Pheonix.
