Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9 ranked Lindsey Wilson football team defeated Campbellsville 35-14 Saturday in the Battle of Highway 55 at Finley Stadium.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders (5-1, 2-0 Mid-South Conference) have now won eight straight over the Tigers (4-3, 2-1 MSC). Lindsey Wilson gained 285 yards with 187 of them coming on the ground. Ethan Cash completed nine of his 22 passes for 98 yards with a pair of touchdowns and one interception. Jbias Dawson ran 29 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns. This marks the third-straight game Dawson has scored multiple touchdowns. Logan Collier caught two passes for 38 yards and a touchdown while Quantae Hicks had three receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown. Collier returned a kick for an 100-yard touchdown and became the program's all-time leader in kickoff return touchdowns.
Defensively, Lindsey Wilson allowed 361 yards but limited Campbellsville to just 42 rushing yards on 24 attempts. The Blue Raiders recorded a season-high seven sacks in the victory and forced two turnovers. Darius Hylick recorded a team-high seven tackles while Brandon Fields had 3.5 sacks. Therone Orr recorded 1.5 sacks while Hylick and LeAndre Bolen each had one.
Following a three-and-out on their first drive, the Blue Raider defense forced their first turnover. Campbellsville started with the ball on its own 33. Campbellsville connected on a 32 yard pass that put the ball on the Lindsey Wilson 34. CA Collins broke a big run before Robbie Spickard forced a fumble that was recovered by Darius Holden Jr. at the Blue Raider three-yard line.
The Blue Raider defense forced the second Campbellsville turnover of the first quarter. After a Lindsey Wilson interception, Therone Orr forced and recovered a fumble on the LWC 14. The Blue Raiders struck first in the second quarter. Cash found Collier who made a leaping catch with a defender on him for the 30-yard touchdown to cap off a seven play 86 yard drive. Dawson carried the ball six times on the scoring drive totaling 56 yards.
Campbellsville ran a fake punt on 4th and 20 and got 25 yards. The Blue Raider defense rebounded after the fake and forced Campbellsville to punt late in the second half. On the punt, Collier ran it back 46 yards to the Tiger 19. The very next play Cash found Hicks for 19 yards on a screen pass to increase the Blue Raiders lead to 14-0 going into halftime.
The Tigers got on the board after a 62 yard pass from Jagger Gillis to Luke Sheperson just 23 seconds into the third quarter to make it 14-7. On the ensuing kickoff, Collier took the return 100 yards to increase the Blue Raider lead to 21-7.
After forcing a three-and-out on the next drive, the Blue Raiders got deep into Campbellsville territory but were unable to capitalize as they missed a 21-yard field goal. The Blue Raiders used a 12 play 91 yard drive capped off by a Dawson two-yard run to take a 28-7 lead. Dawson scored his second touchdown of the day on a six-yard run to give Lindsey Wilson the 35-7 advantage with 4:39 to play. Gillis found Sheperson for the second time with an eight-yard pass to make it 35-14 with 2:04 remaining.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Oct. 21 when they host Cumberlands (Ky.) at 1 p.m. CT
