PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon at the Warsaw Aquatic Center, the Lindsey Wilson women's swim team opened its 2023-24 dual meet schedule with a 164-73 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio).
The Blue Raiders won nine different events over the course of the afternoon, meeting three standards and topping a school record for their lone relay win.
Individually, Maaike Broersma and Jordyn Minifie each triumphed in two races. The latter of the two locked in a NAIA Provisional time of 2:50.51 in the 200-meter short course breaststroke before also placing first in the 200-meter individual medley, while Broersma swam a pair of provisional efforts in the 100 and 200-meter backstrokes.
Lindsey Wilson's record-breaking relay came at the end of the day in the 200-meter freestyle from Natascha Evreinoff, Azaliia Gabdrakipova, Natalia Gorska and Broersma's time of 1:52.83.
Gorska, herself, nearly cracked a provisional standard in the 100-meter freestyle, but nonetheless touched the wall ahead of the field with a mark of 1:02.34.
Karolina Bidnik (200-meter butterfly, 2:50.77), Jaye Farthing (800-meter freestyle, 10:41.01), and Alejandra Martinez (200-freestyle, 2:20.38) also emerged victorious for the Blue Raiders in their respective races.
Lindsey Wilson's next contest is slated for October 21 in Columbia when the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) comes to town for a Mid-South showdown.
